Abstract
Since ancient times, agriculture has been an important part of human life in all societies. In the same line, Islam has given it extra importance in various ways. It is been termed as a collective duty (FarÌ-al- kifÉyah) of the societies where Muslims live in majority. There are many verses in the Holy Qur´Én as well as narrations of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) that emphasize the importance of agriculture. In fact Islam declares the work of agriculture and cultivation as worship if there is an intention of serving other human beings through agricultural activities because food items produced through such activities are a means of livelihood and life for humankind. This article is a survey of the verses of the Holy Qur´Én and an analysis of the narrations of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) that prove that agricultural activities, cultivation and farming is a form of worship for Muslims. The finding bear a clear message to the society that this activity should be done with the intention of worship and in the best possible way for the development of mankind. This article also develops the concept of worship in the form of agriculture activities and explores it as a means of helping the humanity from a religious perceptive.
