Instauration Achievements of Shah Waliullah MuÍadis DeÍlavÊ

Abstract

Shah Waliullah is known for his matchless contributions in all major areas of Islamic sciences. While his contributions in the area of Quran and hadith are well known and recognized universally, he is also a torch bearer in the field of mysticism. He is unique in the field of mysticism in that he was not an ordinary mystic; he was well versed in other Shariah sciences which enabled him to distinguish between permissible and forbidden. He is also known for introducing the notion of worldly struggle, hard work and jihad while calling to the path of mysticism at the same time. In short, he revolutionized mysticism in many positive ways that give him a unique status among the circle of Muslim mystics.  Besides, he contributed enormously to some unresolved debates on mysticism. In this article, some achievements of Shah Waliullah in the field of mysticism are discussed and his novel accomplishments in this arena are introduced.
