Due to the devotion and love of the Muslims to their Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), the biography of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) has been their favorite subject in every age. Other nations also had to acknowledge the glory of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and his scholars and writers also made biography the subject. This article deals with the principle of research propose by Shibli   Nomani for his famous book Sirat-un-Nabawi  or biography of our Holy Prophet Muhammad(peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). In Sirat-un-Nabwi, Maulana Shibli Nomani has explained the basic and universal principles of research which will always be a source of guidance in the field of research. We noticed that the scholarship has been very careful to accept or reject a statement by a person regarding the life of our Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).In this article the researcher has given example of the statements rejected by Shibli Nomani. Although this book could not be published in the life of Maulana Shibli. Its credit goes to his student Syed Sulaiman Nadvi. Who printed the first two volumes from the pen of Maulana Shibli and then completed the rest of the proposed sketch of his teacher by writing the remaining volumes himself.
